I'm not expecting anyone of the parents to drive from Houston or Austin, this won't be a full match. We'll play two 30 minute halves and then go over to Twisted Root for a team dinner and social.
I apologize for constantly leaving you all hanging on pins and needles waiting for information regarding the previous matches I thought we were going to have and then at the last minute, send out notice that the match has been cancelled or rained out. This is not what I had planned and with the two previous clubs reaching out to us for a match, I thought we'd be able to play but haven't. Some people I've spoken with have made various statements to me that those clubs are afraid of losing to us. Maybe I can believe that, but given my experience with collegiate rugby. Once the season is done and there isn't anything left to play for, it's extremly difficult for those clubs whose seasons are done to keep players motivated.
And speaking of motivation, we seem to be going through a bit of it ourselves, While we are still maintaining a decent number of players at practice, we haven't really had one of those great practices like we had when the season was in full swing. Seems like this 6 week layoff between us winning DIII and the national playoffs are going to make things a little more interesting and with Easter coming up, we'll lose an entire practice day. This just might be what we need to get everyone back together on the last Wedneday before we leave for Nebraska.
While we may not have the numbers, I can tell you we won't lose because we aren't fit and I believe the way the lads play and the fitnes we've been working on may make a huge difference and maybe propell us into a victory or two in Nebraska. My lads are talented enough and play as hard and tough as any club I've seen in the past 12 years I've been involved in college rugby, which is also the reason I'm not that worried about them
If you do make the trip up to UTD to watch our scrimmage, great and then we'll all go out for a hamburger and drink and enjoy the nice sping night with friends and family.
