We ended last season with a couple of losses that were hard, but the lads played very well even against the odds. And we finished our season ranked 21st out of 218 schools.
Our upcoming seasons schedule has been put together and posted. We have a good series of games that will feature on some weekends both the guys and girls and some weekends will feature one of the squads.
I’m happy to report that all the coaches will be returning for another season. Bear has been relaxing, traveling and doing what Bear does best and I know he’s ready to run the lads and lasses in preparation for this season. Jacey is coming back to bring her experience to help guide the ladies in our 2nd season. Sarah, who was a player in the beginning, has agreed to come out learn the game from a coach’s perspective which will help everyone out. There may be another addition to the staff, but will keep that to myself until I know more. When everything is right, I will make that announcement.
A little about the upcoming season, one club Angelo State University (ASU) has been added to the North Division of the Lonestar Conference. With our Home and Away schedule, we will see every club twice and with ASU coming into the North, this brings new and steady competition. The other clubs we’ll be seeing are Midwestern St (MSU)., LeTourneau Univ. (LTU), Univ. of Dallas (UD), Southern Methodist Univ. (SMU). With 6 clubs in each division, clubs will be playing 10 games leading to the Lonestar Championship. Also with friendly matches against always tough UNT, we have 2 new additions to our friendly schedule. UT Austin will be coming to Richardson for a controlled scrimmage and next January we will travel to Waco to play Baylor. All these matches are in place to assist us in learning the game by playing our league schedule as well as good division 1 schools. Our progress will be posted weekly.
The ladies will enter their 2nd season and new clubs have also been added in our women’s schedule. Along with the usual suspects, Texas St. (TX ST), Sam Houston St. (SHSU), Texas Christian Univ. (TCU), Univ. of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Lamar Univ and Rice. New to the Lonestar Women’s Conference are Prairie View A&M Women and Angelo St. Univ. Women (ASU). This will give our ladies 7 good matches spread out with time to play and time to rest.
Both the men and women will kick off the season in Austin at the St. Edward’s Round Robin tournament, more info on that to come.
I’m excited about the prospects of this upcoming season and I know everyone is as well. We have new business, to get back to championship form and then winning a Cowboy Cup Qualifying match. If these are accomplished then maybe we can end our season ranked in the top 10.
