One thing I can report on, while we lost a chance of playing a tune up match a couple of weekends ago, we now have a match scheduled for March 24th against Baylor University in Waco. Baylor is a division 1 club and playing
against them will be a good test for the lads in rucking, tackling and playing against bigger opponents. More info on this match will come later in the weekend.
Back to the NSCRO playoffs, I googled Wayne, Nebraska and found that there are other motels in the city. It may take some research to find one, if some of you have called the Super 8 motel and found that it’s booked; yes I did the same thing. There may be rooms available and it won’t matter too much because the city isn’t very large and I’ll have directions to the rugby fields posted as I get them.
Stephen Cohen, the President of NSCRO will have internet broadcast of the games for those of you who cannot make the trip, I listened and watched this tournament last year from my home in Dallas while following St. Edward’s
University. As soon as I know this info again, I’ll post it for everyone to follow if you are unable to join us.
The tournament coordinator in Wayne has booked the entire motel for the three clubs coming to Wayne. Since
the host club doesn’t need rooms and we are the second club to make the playoffs. The third club The
University of Puget Sound was decided last weekend.
The final club for this competition will be decided on March 25th, the champion of the Northern California Collegiate Division 3, California Maritime Academy will play the Southern California Collegiate Division 3, Cal Lutheran University. Then all four clubs will meet in Wayne for the right to go on to the NSCRO Collegiate Division 3 National Championships in Glendale, Colorado.
Thank you everyone for all of your support in this, from the University of Texas at Dallas (Chris McAlpine) for getting a bus for us to make this epic journey to show those other clubs competing, what our lads are made of. The parents with all the support you’ve given the lads from our first round robin tourney in Austin to our championship match on the UTD campus, your efforts go largely unrewarded. You have driven all over Texas to cheer the lads on and on one occasion, spent the unexpected night in Dallas because of rain and our playoff match was cancelled. The students who traveled to the games, the girl-friends, who sat or stood on the side lines in the cold and one time rainy rugby games.
I'll post more information regarding the Baylor match as well as more information regarding the upcoming national playoffs in th
