Week 2 had the UT Dallas Lady Comets hosting UNT. I thought we had good practices leading up to this match up and that we were going to be competitive. Due to my own time mismanagement, I got to the pitch 1/2 hour before kick off and I apologize to everyone for that, but I was very pleased to see that Jonathan and the ladies were very well capable of doing things without me being there.
Both clubs were there warming up and the only thing they were waiting for was the referee. Upon turning around, I noticed that even he had snuck in and was getting kitted up for the game.
The lineup for the UNT match:
1. Kalena, 2. Camille, 3. Vic, 4. Kayla, 5. Sarah, 9. Elaine, 10. Mel, 11. Kelly, 12. Brittany, 13. Dimithree
No reserves
The match kicked off about 5:10 and it was on, both sides running and tackling and playing hard noes rugby. It was UNT that scored first, but the Lady Comets weren't going to be out done. Kayla found some space and carved a path into the goal area for UTD's first score of the game. Those 9 Lady Comets fought a hard fight and they were the experienced players out there. Dimithree who had been at 2 practices, the first to observe and the second to learn how to pass and tackle, was thrown into the match in a traditional baptism under fire and I thought she was admirable, doing anything that needed to be done. The first half ended with UNT 17 and UT Dallas 5.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first half and again it was Kayla who scored the Try for us. The match ended with UNT 36, UT Dallas 10. This coming weekend, the Lady Comets have a bye as far as league play is concerned, but they will be playing TCU in a non league friendly. The match is scheduled to kick off about 2:00 and more info on this will be given as we get closer to the game.
The men who had another week off from league play, will be traveling to Denton on Thursday for a special non league friendly match against the UNT Men. This match has always been on the schedule, in a way to get a number of first year players another game to gain some serious match experience. Info will be passed along as we go into the week.
