The ladies were the first teams to take the field, but UTD was missing a few players. Like last week, where they decided they didn't want to take a forfeit and lost by a huge score to UTSA. This week with players working, deciding to quit, going to TS concerts and a variety of other reasons, my girls showed up with 9 players again. But this time, President Vic, talked with her mates and ASU and decided to take the 4 players ASU was willing to give and play the game as a played forfeit. Keeping the score locked in at 26 to 0 in favor of ASU.
The line up (Only UTD players will be listed)
1. Sarah, 2. Guest, 3. Guest, 4. Dimi, 5. Guest, 8. Camille, 9. Elaine, 10. Kayla, 11. Rubab, 12. Cari, 13. Kelly, 14. Vic
The decision made by Vic and company proved to be the best move of the day. While the UT Dallas girls played hard and never gave up. Except for Sarah and Elaine, each of the other ladies were playing out of position and that is extremely difficult in itself, let alone opponents coming at you wanting to take your head off.
The ladies gave their all, but ASU was intent on making a point (don't know what point that could have been) but they scored 7 Trys in the first half. The second half was a better one for us, maybe because ASU was tired from scoring all those Trys from the first half. ASU only managed to run in 3 Trys in the final half, but on the upside. Camille fought to put 5 points on the board for UT Dallas. Cari converted the Try to put 7 points on the board for UT Dallas. When all was said and done, ASU (Unofficially 71) to UTD (Unofficially 7) - remember the official score will be ASU 26, UTD 0.
After the women's game, the guys took the field against a side that has put over 210 points in the last 2 games. The game kicked off at 2pm and the line up was:
1. Caleb, 2. Nicky, 3. Ryan, 4. Connor, 5. Andrew Blogett, 6. Manny, 7. Keaton, 8. Daniel, 9. Chase, 10. Edmund, 11. Coleman, 12. Seth, 13. Steven L. 14. Clint Cowin, 15. Zack.
Reserves, 16. Nick P. 17. Ola, 18. Isaac, 20. Will, 21. Savion, 23. Brandon
Kick off game and both sides were stingy with what they gave up in terms of yardage, but UTD was bound to play and keep ASU out of goal. Play went up and down the pitch, and it was ASU to score first and only 3 more times in that first half. The score at the end of the half, ASU 24, UT Dallas 0.
The second half was pretty much all ASU, but in that mix of ASU running, passing and scoring, there were some good tackles, good runs and over all good play by the UTD men. One of those exciting moments of the half was watching Chase fight off and run into goal for UTD's lone score of the day, brilliant. The final score ASU 76, UTD 5.
This coming weekend, the ladies host their 3rd home match and the guys host their first home match. The ladies will be playing Sam Houston St. (SHSU) with kick off coming at 5:15pm. SHSU has always been one of UTD's more challenging opponents. They aren't particularly big or fast, but the rivalry between the 2 schools has grown into a fierce but good one.
The men host Stephen F. Austin (SFA) and kick off should be about 6:30. SFA will be big and fast and it'll be up to our players to be faster and smarter if they want to get back onto the win column. Since SFA's admittance into the Lonestar Conference, we've played them 3 times and have not beaten them yet. So if we do put things together and pull out a victory, it will be the first.
See everyone out there this coming weekend, because there will be 3 special guests to come out and speak to the players both men and women of the University of Texas at Dallas Rugby Football Club. More on that later.
