This week, weather allowing, we'll continue to work on some of those skills that have gotten us to this point and some new pieces will be added to our little bag of tricks.
Lamar finished the season with 2 wins and 4 loses, both came from forfeits (SMU and Tyler JC) but the word is that they have improved from the first time we met. In the final league match of the season, Lamar lost to UTSA 12 - 10. They have good athletes on their club and I expect this match to be a wide open.
Our lads will be ready for this match and I am looking forward to watching them roam touch line to touch line eating Lamar ball carriers, keeping them from finding the back of the goal as few times as possible. While on the attack, I think you'll see some new and interesting moves out of our backs, with the forwards now in better position for support than in the past, allowing more players to touch the ball and more opportunities for us to score.
This coming Friday, before practice begins, we will have a guest speaker, John Antonisse (the UT Dallas Women's Soccer Coach) speak with the guys on what it's like to be nationally ranked to continue to focus on the mission at hand. For us it's to win the Texas Rugby Union Collegite Division III Championship, if by any chance we don't win this championship. It won't be because we aren't prepared, it will be because that club is the better club on that day.
I'm excited about this coming Saturday, and my job is to hold them back as much as possible Wednesday and Friday's practice, only to turn them loose on Saturday evening.
Just to mention this again, our first playoff match will be Saturday evening (Feb. 18th) kick off is scheduled sometime after 7:00pm on the UT Dallas rugby field (# 6). Looking forward to seeing everyone coming out to help cheer us on to victory.
