1. MSU plays a 10 man game, meaning they feel their 8 forwards and two backs are enough to do it for them.
2. Their backs don't tackle well.
3. They ruck and counter ruck very well,
meaning when their guys get tackled they secure possession well and when they make tackles their forwards know how to move the other team so that the MSU backs can get the ball to mount their own attack.
Like UT Dallas they also have a collegiate all star on their side and he is a very good prop, but we have two all star backs on our side.
Currently, UT Dallas and MSU are both 2 - 0, SMU and UTSA are 1 - 1 and Lamar and Tyler are 0 - 2. What this means for us is the winner of this match will have a very comfortable position with 2 league matches to go in the spring. For us this road gets stronger, MSU will be a formidable opponent, then next January, we face UTSA and then SMU for the final two matches of the year before the playoffs begin. But let's not get ahead of myself, we have MSU this weekend and then a well deserved break.
If any of you are planning on attending the match, it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from UT Dallas. I got the info from MSU's coach and googled the address, we'll be playing at Kirby Middle School, 1699 N Beverly Dr, Wichita Falls, TX 76306. The rugby pitch is on the corner of Beverly Dr. and Maurine St. in Wichita Falls.
Keep an eye on the weather forcasts, it may rain that day and we will play rain or shine. If you do make it out there great, if you can't I'll be updating you sometime Sunday.
