I was on concerned with our division, there are high school reports and results on the other 2 collegiate divisions as well.
While Midwestern State received a 28-0 forfeit because Tyler Junior College's team from the fall is now defunct, UTSA missed the opportunity to grab second place in Texas Division 3. The Roadrunners beat the Cardinals of Lamar by a score of 12-10. This dropped UTSA into 3rd place and bumped Lamar up into 4th.
UTD's 74-0 drubbing of SMU places them firmly in the lead for Division 3. UTD's flanker Zachary Ussery and 8-man Steven Hale had a big day defensively on a day coach Tony Wagner lauded his team as the defensive heroes. However, UTD's backline got into space often and made it count. Captain and outside center Nathan Sohadaseni found in-goal four times, inside center Dominic Prestia and scrumhalf Cameron Broussard dotted down twice each, flyhalf Vince Dutton scored a try and five conversions, and first year center Brandon Miller - earned his zulu. UTD's depth grew on the day as well as Coach Wagner used all of his substitutes.
The Texas D3 semi-finals schedule is tentative at the moment, but we should see #3 UTSA take a little jaunt to Wichita Falls to tangle with #2 Midwestern State on Feb 18 and #4 Lamar travel to Richardson to face #1 UTD on Feb 19.
More information on the upcoming playoffs will be coming soon. Thank you again to all the parents, fans and supporters of the UT Dallas Rugby Club, because without you there to witness it, we'd all be telling fishing stories.
