We're a little more than a week away from our big end of the year Awards/Banquet. Like the fall awards/banquet it will be held at Sonny Bryan's Bar-B-Que. The address is listed in the Schedule & Standings section of this website. The time for the awards/banquet has been changed just a bit to accomodate us and Sonny Bryan's. The awards/banquet will be from 3:30 to 5:30, May 12th.
I hope that everyone will be able to attend, we'll have a few gag awards, plus the serious awards and I know all the players will be in attendance, it should be a lot of fun considering everything we've gone through this past season.
On another note, some of the lads have expressed an interest in competing in some 7's tournaments this coming summer.
7's is slightly different than the kind of rugby you've watched this past season. Meaning they play on the same size field, except there are only 7 players on the field for each team. If played correctly, 7's can be more like a track meet, because there is so much running. This also is the rugby that will be re-introduced in the upcoming Olympics, one other note: The USA is currently the defending Gold Medal Champion in Rugby having defeated France in the last Olympics this sport was played (1924, Paris Olympics).
I'm excited about this and them because I see a lot of potential and exciting players from this club. More on that to come.
Thank you to everyone who helped us get to everyone match we played (in person, in spirit), everyone who brought food, water, gatoraide anything the lads needed and especially everyone who helped us get to Nebraska and those who made the trip themselves. I only wish the weather and scores would have been a bit more favorable to us, but I'm proud of the lads accomplishment all season and Nebraska. They never quit, they played hard and were true ambassadors of themselves, their parents, UT Dallas and the game.
