But there was one more gift that hadn’t been opened, when I opened that present, it was notification that UT Dallas had been awarded the rights to host the inaugural Cowboy Cup Qualifier on March 23rd & 24th 2013.
Stephan Cohen (President of NSCRO) has come up with this revamped competition bracket and the Lonestar Conference sought out bids from other clubs wanting to host this qualifier. The competition will pit the top two Texas College Division III Rugby clubs against the top two Colorado College Division III Rugby clubs. This will be a two day event with clubs playing both days. The champion of this event will go on to Colorado for the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) Elite 8 competition April 6th & 7th 2013.
The Lonestar Conference reviewed the bids submitted and awarded us the bid to host this competition. A lot of the work has already been done, hotel rates secured, the field is secured, and we’re working on a score board not only for this competition but for our home matches as well. Chris McAlpine, our Rec Sports Director along with Nathan our club President was kept in the loop as the bid was written for any and all input. I’d like to thank both of them now for the work they’ve done in helping us get this bid and David Shaffer for helping to construct the score board I mentioned earlier.
The main challenge now for the lads, is to not let down on any of their remaining matches leading up to this competition. We have 3 remaining league matches against very tough opponents, then 2 more tough matches leading to the Lonestar Championships.
As we get closer to the actual event, I may reach out to others for assistance in putting on this competition.
