Upon getting on the field and doing a little stretching, I counted the players and we had 55 players at our first practice. 40 guys and 15 ladies, this was exciting to see and still missing some of last years returning players. We put to player through a series of exercises in which we taught them how to make a rugby pass and the beginning stage of making a tackle. Oh, and yes we did run them a bit.
On our 2nd practice Friday, the turn out was about 40 players, 29 guys and 11 ladies. On this day we reviewed what we worked on Wednesday and stepped it up a notch. Those players looked good in their second practice and many of them never played a sport let alone rugby, so this is an exciting time to bring these young athletes into the game.
Since Monday is a holiday, no practice for the players and giving the coaches the day off, but Wednesday we'll pick up where we left off and take it a bit farther since the guys don't have very much time. In about 2 weeks we will be playing a controlled scrimmage against UT Austin on our rugby field.
Thank you to John Bradshaw and Heather Ball for creating a section on this web site to offer the sale of UT Dallas Rugby T-shirts and decals. Take a look at that section and place your order all the proceeds help the UT Dallas Rugby Club Men and Women.
Stay tuned for more blogs by me as our season moves forward.
