Now back to the UT Dallas Rugby Club, our women will begin the season with new leadership. Kayla Kilbury is the new president for the wormen's club. They will be competing in Tier 2 which has 5 clubs competing in the fall. And I may have a surprise for the women as we get closer to the beginning of the new school year.
The Men also have new leadership, Brandon Hernandez is their new president and already have been working with him on our upcoming season. We begin the summer in the Lonestar Conference Tier 1, but with the late addition of UNT into the conference, UT Dallas volunteered to move to Tier 2. This move may be a very good move for us, because Tier 1 is quickly becoming almost what I consider a Division 1 type of competition. We should be very competitive in this new Tier and if we do well, we should still make the playoffs next spring.
I know the guys and girls have been doing a lot of recruiting in preparations for our upcoming year, I too have been doing my share of recruiting. Last spring I met the family of an incoming freshman scrumhalf, who looks to be a very good player. It should be great to watch him grow with us for the next four years. I've also attended high school rugby tournaments, spreading the word that UT Dallas has a rugby club.
Our new schedule should be posted in the upcoming weeks, now that I have it finalized and confirmed. Looking forward and excited about our upcoming season. New opponents and renewed rivalries, who could ask for more?
