In a pretty entertaining first half, the Quins U23 struck first by scoring a Try in the opening minutes of the match. After that Try, the UT Dallas Comets woke up and began to play some rugby. With a few of the first XV out of the line up due to work, original schedule or family obligations it was nice to put some of the others into the game to see how well they produce. And produce they did, the first half ended with the score being UTD 5, Quins U23 12.
The second half began with a good number of substitutions being made and the game resumed, but this half would be all Harlequins, while there was a good number of individual effort on the pitch and that is very promising. The final score, UTD 12, Dallas Harlequins U23 51. Positive note 2: UTD scored two Trys on this evening, one by Talha and the other by Steve Larson.
Next weekend, we continue our league season and travel to Houston to take on Rice University. This could be a big match with Rice being the home side, they should be strong and right now, we cannot take them lightly. On the other side of the coin, Rice is currently sitting on a 1 - 3 record, but you cannot use that. There is nothing more dangerous than a team that doesn't have anything to lose, so they become the spoiler. This is something we're going to have to watch out for and maintain our competitive edge.
The address and directions to the Rice Rugby Field will be posted as soon as I get that info from the Rice Rugby Club. See you Saturday in Houston.
